Through working on that committee, she learned more about the food bank from Executive Director, Tracie Smith and about how serious the hunger situation is in Columbia County. She hopes to assist Tracie in finding ways to assure that there is always sufficient food to help those in need. Carmen is self employed and currently is contracted with Columbia Pacific Economic Development District as the Business Development Officer.
Vice President
Kevin Friends
Kevin joined the board in March 2009. He got involved because "giving back to my community has always been an important part of my life." He has volunteered for many organizations, including a food bank and a residential care facility for people living with AIDS and for a Greyhound rescue. Kevin is currently retired.
Treasurer
Carolyn McCarton
Carolyn came to CPFB from the HELP food pantry board where she had been a board member since 2003 and continued on when CPFB and HELP merged. Carolyn wanted to give back to the community and she says "helping to feed people is important"! She is a chiropractor in St. Helens
Secretary
Dave Connor
Dave started volunteering with CPFB in 2009. He joined the board in June 2010.
He got involved because he felt that something was missing in his life. He had previously volunteered for a HIV/AIDS organization in Portland, OR where he was both a volunteer and board secretary for 4 years. After taking a short break, he felt it was time to get involved again, but this time in his local community. He started volunteering where he could, mostly helping at food drives. Because of his previous experience of being a board secretary, he was asked to join the board of directors He is employed with Intel corporation. He works in the legal compliance group as a Compliance Support Specialist, specializing in anti-trust, anti-corruption and anti-bribery.
Member
Elva Mills
Elva started out volunteering with the H.E.L.P food pantry in 1991 and stayed on when the two agencies merged in 2003. She worked for Community Action Team many years ago and saw the many needs of our community. She also was a single mother for many years and knew the challenges that you are faced with when you are on a limited income. She felt that no one should ever have to go hungry. She wanted to help her community and hoped by volunteering that she could help to make a difference. Elva has worked for Coluumbia River PUD for 19 years. She works in the customer service department as a customer service representative doing credit and collection.
Heidi Cutler
Heidi joined the board in 2000. She wanted to do something meaningful in her community to help the less fortunate. Heidi works at Ticor Title and has been there for ten and a half years. She is the assistant to the County Manager.
Joe Deshazer
Joe started volunteering in 1998 and joined the board in 2002. He joined the board because he wanted to help kids and seniors to not go without food. He went without food when he was a kid and again when he became disabled. His family also went without so he knows what it is like to be hungry. Joe is a domestic engineer and likes to fish, play cards with seniors, make stained glass and to help people.
Susie Wilson
Susie joined the board in 2009. She joined because she has a passion for wanting to feed the community and she sees HUGE needs in filling the shelves. She has done fundraisers before and knew that she could help fill those shelves. Her background is the restaurant business and she has been feeding people most of her working life. Her heart is with the Food Bank! Susie is a realtor with Re/Max PowerPros specializing in commercial and residential. She is also the working manager for the Scappoose Cafe.
Anita Miller
Anita joined the board in 2010. After being laid off from work like so many people are nowadays, she decided she wanted to spend her time helping others in some way. Too many people are facing hunger and although she couldn't be of financial support to them, she realized that she could offer her time and business skills. She is a human resource professional and enjoys being a creative problem solver. She can't think of a better organization to volunteer her time with. Anita is a self-employed business consultant. She provides human resources and bookkeeping services to small businesses. She is also a freelance writer.
Board of Directors
Karen Greeney
Karen joined the board in July 2010. She got involved because she believes that "it takes a village" to create a healthy, strong community that empowers all of its residents. A saying that she has utilized and that has defined her throughout her life is, "If there are any inalienable rights they are to proper education and healthcare." With education and healthcare the playing field is level and a person has the physical and intellectual means to accomplish whatever they set their mind to. Certainly that includes the right to proper food and nutrition. She joined the board to work toward being a small part of the solution to hunger in Columbia County. She is the Manager of membership services and resident programs for Oregon Alliance of Senior and Health Services.
